Senior Platform Engineer
Our client is a well-established financial services organisation with a significant engineering presence in Ireland. They are expanding their Platform & Infrastructure Engineering team and looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to help shape and own the shared services that the wider engineering organisation depends on.
The Role
This is a platform engineering role, not DevOps. Application teams own their own pipelines; your focus is the paved roads they run on — the multi-tenant Kubernetes platform, internal developer platform (IDP), cloud networking, identity, and policy-as-code.
You will own major platform initiatives from brief to production, set technical standards, mentor junior and mid-level engineers, and partner with architecture and security on cross-cutting decisions.
IaC-first culture. If your instinct is to click through a console, this role is not for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and evolve a multi-tenant AKS platform: tenancy model, upgrade strategy, operator ecosystem, service mesh
- Build and maintain services for the internal platform catalog
- Architect Terraform module hierarchies and set IaC standards for the team
- Contribute to zero-trust networking, cloud identity, and policy-as-code
- Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar through reviews and pairing
- Lead incident response for platform systems and contribute to the on-call rota
Essential Skills
- Deep production experience on a major public cloud (Azure preferred; AWS or GCP considered)
- Designed and operated multi-tenant Kubernetes platforms at scale
- Terraform is your primary tool — you design module hierarchies, not just write modules
- Fluent in Python for platform tooling; you treat platform code as software
- Strong cloud networking: hub-and-spoke, peering, Private Link, egress controls
- GitOps mindset; production experience with ArgoCD or equivalent
- Hands-on with policy tooling: Kyverno, OPA, or equivalent
- Comfortable in regulated environments (PCI-DSS, ISO 27001)
- Strong communicator; writes architectural documents that become team references
Nice to Have
- CKA or CKS certification
- Azure, AWS, or GCP certifications
- Experience with secrets management (Vault, cloud-native KMS)
- Familiarity with eBPF / Cilium
- Financial services or regulated industry background
Package & Location
- Salary up to €110,000 depending on experience
- Hybrid working — primarily remote with occasional travel to the Kerry office
- Permanent role, based in Ireland
